We belong to the United States Collegiate Skiing Association, and our racers compete in various events during the season, progressing through the USCSA Southeast Conference, USCSA Mid-Atlantic Regionals, and USCSA Nationals.

Skiing:
Alpine: Slalom, Giant Slalom (GS)
Freestyle: Slopestyle, Halfpipe, Skiercross

Snowboarding:
Giant Slalom (GS), Boardercross, Slopestyle, Halfpipe

Racers do not have to compete in all of the events in their discipline, but they can participate in as many events and as many disciplines as they desire.

Racing is by no means required, and only a fraction of VASST members participate.  However, if you are interested in racing it is highly encouraged.  Experience is not an issue, only a small percentage of our racers competed before college.  If you'd like to race, all it takes is dedication the team and a good attitude.

Since its inception, VASST has brought plenty trophies home to UVA.  While winning is never the goal, it is a testament to the fact that our resources can help improve the skills of anyone who is willing to work with us.

If you have any questions about racing, contact your respective captain; their information is on the Exec page.

Nationals

2011's Nationals were hosted in Sun Valley, Idaho.  None of us had ever been to Idaho before, but the long flight turned out to be totally worth it.  The slopes were great, and our Men's Skiers got 16th place overall, and both Men's and Women's Snowboarders took 3rd!  Not too bad for a bunch of kids from Virginia.
